Description

Join us for this timely discussion on amplifying awareness and building political will and accountability for the prevention of mass atrocities. The panel features:

  • Rachel Miner, executive director/CEO of Bellwether International, where she works directly with government leaders, faith and belief leaders, and other nongovernmental organizations to address the growing human rights violations that affect groups such as the Uighurs in China and Rohingya in Myanmar.
  • Amanda Coven (Director of K-12 Partnerships and Engagement, Civics Learning Project)  who, in her previous role as Director of Education at the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education, was instrumental in crafting the language for and supporting the implementation of SB664, Oregon’s Holocaust and genocide education mandate, with educators across the state.
  • Nurul Haque, founder/president of the Burmese Rohingya Student Union. Haque grew up in the world’s largest refugee camp in Bangladesh when the Myanmar military launched a genocidal campaign against Rohingyas in 2017, causing 700,000 families to flee targeted violence.

This program is supported in part by Bellwether International in collaboration with the World Affairs Councils of America's Engage America series, which partners with think tanks, foundations, NGOs, corporations, and occasionally government entities to arrange “national conversations” at World Affairs Councils across the country on critical international topics.
