Description

Join Julia Cooke (author of The Other Side of Paradise: Life in the New Cuba and Come Fly The World: The Jet-Age Story of the Women of Pan Am) as she explores riveting story of three women reporters—Martha Gellhorn, Rebecca West, and Emily “Mickey” Hahn— and the way they changed the world, work, and journalism.
Cook takes us on veritable thrill-ride through the groundbreaking lives of these intrepid female correspondents who bravely broke down barriers and challenged conventions—from Omaha Beach on D-Day to backroom meetings with Chinese rebels in prewar Shanghai, dangerous solo travel in Mexico, Congo, and the Deep South—charting blazing trails into uncharted territories
across three decades and five continents. A rich look at three fierce women who didn’t just bear witness to the great changes of the 20th century, but whose curiosity, grit, ambition, and stories changed the world.

Julia Cooke is the author of the books Come Fly the World, a Goodreads Choice Awards finalist and a Malala Yousafzai’s Literati book club pick, and The Other Side of Paradise. Her essays have appeared in A Public Space, Salon, The Threepenny Review, Smithsonian, Tin House, and the Virginia Quarterly Review. Her reporting has been published in Condé Nast Traveler, The New York Times, and other publications. She holds an MFA from Columbia University.
